Blueberries!

The kids and I picked about 65 lbs of blueberries this year at our favorite blueberry farm. (We picked 90 lbs there last year and we still have two 1 gallon bags left in the freezer, even after giving a few bags away, so I figured I'd be a little less aggressive this year, haha!) The berries are not sprayed and they are the best I've tasted!! What's even more amazing is they are only $1 a pound! Wow! They are worth the little bit of a drive to me (about 20 min from our house), because we clearly eat a lot of frozen blueberries year round and the taste of these just can't be beat!

Here's the farm info taken from the web:
Village Gardens At Witch Hazel - Blueberries are not sprayed.
4025 SE Brookwood Ave, Hillsoro, OR 97123. Phone: 503-819-2411. Directions: East Hillsboro. Tualatin Valley Highway (Hwy 8). Turn South on Brookwood Avenue, go 1/2 mile. Second house on right after Davis Road. Sign at end of driveway. Open: Wednesday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm. Blueberries: July and August. Payment: Cash, Check.

The owner is so nice, and often sitting out there in the shade with her sweet dog (who the kids love). I look forward to seeing her friendly face each year. She provides the picking buckets, but be sure to bring a couple bags or containers of your own to carry your berries home in.

She still has tons of berries out there to pick, so get together with your girlfriends and go pick! Oh, and by the way, right there on Hwy 8 near her farm is a drive thru Starbucks (and a Dairy Queen if you can have dairy), so if you're wanting a nice cold Frappuccino after picking it's right there. :)

If you're wondering what we do with 65 lbs of blueberries a year... well, Josh takes about 1 cup of frozen berries a day in a jar to work and eats them at his desk. One of my favorite winter time snacks is a bowl of frozen blueberries and choc chips (we love the g-free, dairy free choc chips in the health section at Fred Meyer, I believe they are in a photo in my choc chip cookie post below). We also use the berries in pancakes, scones, muffins, and make a lot of smoothies. What are some of your favorite blueberry recipes?
